Walk in a State Forest: Lessons for the Home Landscape

Date:
Saturday, June 1, 2024 -
8:00am to 10:30am

How does a preserved landscape relate to our home landscapes? Explore The Preserve State Forest in Old Saybrook, CT, during this two-plus hour walk. The pace will be moderate to brisk. There will be three stops to observe landscape features, including bird-friendly areas, native shrubs, trees, herbaceous plants, and geological features. We will also observe incursions by invasive plants. The terrain is rolling and not very steep, but trails are rocky. Walking sticks are helpful.

Meet at 8 a.m. Parking lot located at 1278 Essex Road in Westbrook. Bring water and insect protection, and wear boots. Ages 12 and older. No dogs, please. Heavy rain cancels. Call leader Kathy Connolly for more information. 860-510-2136.

This event is part of Connecticut Trails Weekend, the largest Trails Weekend event in the country. See you there!

Thanks to generous donors, there will be a drawing at the end of the walk for bird and hiking supplies.
