Meadows and Fields of Southern New England: 2019 Tour

Date:
Saturday, August 3, 2019 -
8:45am to 3:00pm

Join the caravan as we visit meadows and fields on Saturday, August 3, 2019 in search of native flowers in full bloom and warm-season grasses at their peaks. We’ll begin at two meadows in the Connecticut College Arboretum, New London, CT, then carpool to three additional meadow sites in southeastern Connecticut.

The day will begin with an introduction and overview. We’ll walk for about 20 minutes to each location, with time for questions, plant identification, and photography at each stop. At lunch, there will be an opportunity for discussion and sharing ideas. We’ll end with a summary discussion at the gathering spot.

A list of locations and directions will be sent about two weeks before the event. Registration includes extensive field notes and plant lists. Bring a clipboard to make it easy to "scribble in the margins." Most of the walking (about two miles total) is on relatively level terrain, but surfaces may be uneven. Please wear good walking shoes and good insect protection.

Provide your own transportation or form a carpool at the first stop. (Total driving distance: About 65 miles.) Bring a bag lunch. Due to the busy agenda, this event is not appropriate for children under 12. (Also not appropriate for four-footed furry friends.)
