Create Foundation Gardens That Say 'Welcome Home' to Native Plants

Date:
Saturday, April 6, 2019 -
1:30pm to 3:30pm

How can we bring beautiful native plants into the foundation garden, that traditional bastion of boxwoods and pachysandra?

In this two-hour talk, we will focus on two major topics that help answer the question.

First, we'll look at solutions to the fundamental design problems posed by planting near buildings, driveways, sidewalks, and other structures.

Second, we'll look at native shrubs, small trees, perennials, and groundcovers that suit foundation-area gardens. We’ll also explore the topic of “nativars,” look at native substitutes for traditional foundation plants, and identify deer-resistant selections.

An extensive handout will include lists of plants and design resources.
