How can we bring beautiful native plants into the foundation garden, that traditional bastion of boxwoods and pachysandra? In this one-hour talk, we focus on two major topics that help answer the question.
First, we consider the fundamental design problems posed by buildings, driveways, sidewalks, and other structures. We look at a few new ways of looking at the home or community landscape, including the many native shrubs, small trees, perennials, and groundcovers that suit foundation-area gardens.
An extensive handout includes upwards of 100 plants as well as design resources.
