Lakeside and riverside gardens are a joy to see, but beauty is not their only benefit. They can also help keep water clean at the same time as they support birds, butterflies and bees.

This one-hour presentation by landscape designer Kathy Connolly discusses the importance of minimizing runoff from roads, roofs and lawns. Kathy will explain the permeability of various surfaces, such as roofs, asphalt, gravel, grass, and vegetated buffers. She'll how to create and sustain gardens that buffer runoff from reaching water bodies. She’ll offer plant suggestions and talk about the long-term maintenance of buffer gardens.
