Grow Your Own Meadow: Large or Small

Date:
Thursday, June 2, 2016 -
5:00pm to 8:00pm

If you’ve ever been attracted to the beautiful chaos of a healthy meadow, this two-hour seminar will demystify these ecologically valuable spaces, outline the steps and equip you to get started.

Join us at New England Wildflower Society's Nasami Farm in Whately, MA.

Description: What is a meadow, anyway? Is it a lawn unmowed or a perennial bed gone wild? Is it something different altogether? In this three-hour seminar, we'll define the term, discuss meadow ecology, look at the role of native plant species, review helpful tools, and explain steps you can take to establish or improve a meadow. We'll also discuss other no-mow and low-mow approaches to durable groundcovers. Based on participant feedback, the class is longer this year to spend more time on site selection and preparation.

Plants and materials: After the lecture, you can purchase native seedlings grown especially for this event by NEWFS at Nasami Farm, as well as other useful materials. Cash or credit cards accepted. Those who preregister by March 1 can order their plants ahead of time.

Coffee and tea provided. The seminar will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nasami Farm, Whately, MA, about one hour north of Hartford, CT or 15 minutes north of Northampton, MA.
