How can we bring beautiful native plants into the foundation garden, that traditional bastion of boxwoods and pachysandra? In this one-hour talk, landscape designer Kathy Connolly focuses on two major topics that help answer the question.
First, she discusses the fundamental design problems posed by planting near buildings, driveways, sidewalks, and other structures. She offers new ways of looking at the home landscape.
Then she talks about the many native shrubs, small trees, perennials, and groundcovers that suit foundation-area gardens. She also explores native substitutes for traditional non-native foundation plants and identifies deer-resistant selections.
An extensive handout will include lists of plants and design resources.
