Grassy lawns are the single most popular groundcover, but they are not always the best choice or the easiest to maintain. In this talk, we look at alternative strategies for covering every inch of ground with durable groundcovers. Above all, we'll ask the question: How do help groundcovers really cover ground for the long haul?
Options include not only low-growing flowering perennials, but native ornamental grasses, low-mow lawn mixes, sedum, ferns, moss, and more. We'll touch on the topic of meadows as a way to "cover ground" and look at some new developments in groundcovers. We'll also "look under the hood" at the roles of soil and site in successful ground-covering strategies.
