Landscape Planning and Design Services

A note to visitors:

I currently limit my design practice to "nature-scaping" projects such as vegetated buffers for waterside areas, meadows, low-mow lawns, intensive groundcovers, and other ways of integrating nature into residential, commercial, and community landscapes. If you'd like to be kept up to date my activities, articles, and talks, please contact me or join the mailing list (above, right). Thanks for visiting this website and thanks for your interest. Landscape design is a process in which the designer, clients, and other stakeholders jointly bring a shared vision into a plan that can be implemented immediately or, most often, over a period of years. My role is to discuss your goals and assess the landscape, imagine possibilities, create drawings, offer examples from other places, create photo simulations, and draft site plans. The process helps bring ideas "down to earth" with real landscape features that can be enjoyed for a long time. The process may include some or all of the following activities:

  • Clarify your goals for the landscape

  • Understand site constraints and problems

  • Highlight the assets, history, ecology, and sustainability of the site

  • Develop alternative solutions

  • Create a plan that can be implemented in phases

  • Identify and recommend the right plant and landscape materials

  • Assist with approvals from Inland Wetlands, Conservation, Planning and Zoning Commissions

  • Identify and recommend installation professionals

  • Project management during installation and maintenance
